Integrated Professional Pilot Program


Learn to fly. This is the program for you if want to become a pilot. The Integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence Course is designed for students with no or limited previous experience. It is a highly structured and comprehensive program that focuses on your goal of becoming a First Officer with an airline such as Icelandair, SAS, Norwegian, Emirates, Ryanair etc. Currently around 90% of our students from this program finds a job within the first year of graduation.

Flight training

The flight training is divided into five different phases, each with different content but with the same goal — providing you with the fundamentals required in commercial aviation.

The program consists of 205 flight hours flown on Diamond DA20, DA40 and DA42 NG aircraft, as well as synthetic flight training devices. We operate from various airfields in Iceland with our main hubs in Keflavik and Reykjavik.

Theoretical training

We aim to be at the forefront of teaching and utilize the latest learning technologies, including market-leading computer based training developed by CAE Oxford Aviation Academy. The interactive visual presentations enchanses learning, you can find a demo here.

You start with a basic course aimed at giving the required knowledge for the first phases of flight training. After the basic course, you will attend the ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License) theoretical course comprising 14 different subjects. We operate from our two training locations in Keflavik and Reykjavik.

Entry requirements
Right to live & study in Iceland

Foreign nationals from a country outside of the EEA (EU) and/or EFTA, who plan to stay in Iceland for more than three (3) months, must have a valid residence permit. Find more information about residence permits and student visa.

Passed screening process

Candidates are invited for the screening after a successfully completed application phase when all required documents are submitted and confirmed.

Medical class 1 certificate

As a commercial pilot, you need to be the holder of a medical class 1 certificate. You will need to obtain it before entering the course.  You can find more information about the medical in our knowledge base.

Proof of no criminal record

As a student pilot, you need to present a proof of no criminal record and will be subject to a “background check” by the Keflavik police department.

Must be at least 18 years of age

You need to be at least 18 years old when at time of the course start.

The study fees were updated on May 2019 and are effective from the same date.

We are approved for governmental student financial support in Iceland (LÍN), Denmark (SU) and Sweden (CSN).

When budgeting for your training, please consider the following additional costs:

Aircraft fleet

Keilir Aviation Academy has a fleet consisting entirely of state-of-the-art Diamond aircraft. In contrast to many other flight schools that utilize older aircraft, our planes are up to 50% more fuel-efficient. This is one of the reasons that we can offer training with a very competitive price tag.


Most apartments 2 bedroom apartments shared by 2 students. Each apartment comes with a private bedroom (with own access) and a shared kitchen and bathroom. There are limited apartments available and the sooner you apply, the more likely you are to get an apartment of your choice.
In the vicinity of the campus, you will find a gym, football field, swimming pools and other activities.

Frequently asked questions

All pilot training will be taught in English (both for Icelandic and International students).


The initial examination for a Medical class 1 certificate can be completed in any EASA country. It may be a good idea to combine a Keilir Aviation Academy school visit with the medical examination. Please note that it may take a few days to complete the different medical examinations.

We require payment for the training upfront, however, the tuition fee is divided into multiple installments so you are not required to pay for the full training cost at once. The payment plan can be found in your Training Agreement.

Students are entitled to student financial support from LÍN.

Det er meget individuelt, hvordan vores elever finansierer deres pilotuddannelse. Ofte er det en kombination af opsparing, SU og privat banklån. Uddannelsen er berettiget til SU i Danmark til gældende normale takster. Se de aktuelle takster og betingelser på SU.

Ved ophold længere end 6 måneder er der også mulighed for at ansøge om boligstøtte fra den islandske stat på op til ca. 1700 DKK om måneden. Boligstøtten er afhængig af din indkomst i det forgående år og kan beregnes her: Boligstøtte beregner.

Vi är godkända av CSN för finansiering av Integrated Professional Pilot Program och studenter kan få upp till ca. 672.600 kr i studiestöd. Notera att beloppet ovan är baserat på en person som är 25 år gammal och haft tidigare inkomst från arbete.
